While it’s been a month since I’ve started building a Core i7 computer, I’ve been making my other purchases until I figure out what is wrong (lots of weird video, post errors, etc and some parts are in RMA). So I decided to order a 24″ monitor, and I got it in 2 days, thanks to NewEgg.
Brand: ASUS
Model: VH242H
Size: 23.6″ Diagonal
Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (full 1080p HD
)
Features: HDMI, DVI, SPDIF, 3.5mm audio out, built in speakers

I had a Acer 19″ previously, but it didn’t work well for gaming or movies because everything was downscaled to 1440 x 900. I haven’t been able to test this because of my whole PC issue, but I assume that it’s the best! It’s got everything I will need for the next 5 years (or whenever we get some sort of ridiculous innovation in LCDs). I was considering getting a 28″ instead, but now that I see this, I’m glad that I got this instead.
I tried connecting it with VGA to a laptop, and it glowed for the first time, and this thing is BRIGHT! It was honestly hard to look at! I went through the OSD (on screen display) to turn down the backlit, and it was only at 75%!
The colors were acurate after I adjusted them, but I couldn’t test anything else. The monitor came in excellent, efficient packaging. and the stand is very sturdy.
On the front at the controls, which include color mode, volume, menu, brightness, input source, and the power switch. For an odd reason though, the switch is orange, which doesn’t match anything else:
Here’s a quick shot of the I/O panel with all the connectors. The stand includes a loop to run your wires through, to keep it clean.
Nevertheless, its still an awesome monitor. 1080p, HDMI support, what else could you need? It’s perfect for watching movies or TV and even gaming, but it’s pushing the limits of the size that you need for productivity applications. If your not going to be doing any of the above, then a 19″ would suffice. Just for the heck of it, I’m going to run the old 19″ as a extended display for more work area. It really helps when you have a lot of applications running.
Pros:
- Full 1080p HD (1920 x 1080)
- DVI, HDMI, VGA, SPDIF out, 3.5mm in, 3.5mm out, built in speakers
- Bright
- Useful front panel
- Slick design
- Strong Base
- Cable Management
- DVI, VGA, 3.5mm cables included
Cons:
- Speakers aren’t excellent (still the best I’ve seen built into a monitor)
- No height adjustment (most don’t have this anyways)
- No HDMI cable included
- Mediocre orange power button
- Glossy; attracts fingerprints easily
Bottom Line: 9.5/10
Recommended: Yes
